FAMILY

I married Wendy Bigler from Blackfoot, Idaho in the Salt Lake City Temple on April 22, 1982. (Did you pick up on the names Peter and Wendy? You must know Disney to see the magical connection!)

We are the parents of three children: Christina, Sam, Jacob.

We are grandparents of six:

Maya, Beckham, Avery, Henry, Charlie and Dorothy. I wish my kids would keep having kids. Grandkids are the best.

When I was 11, my dad took a job at Church College of Hawaii, now BYU-Hawaii. I graduated from Lāʻie Elementary School in 1972 and attended Kahuku High School on the North Shore of Oʻahu (1972–1976).

After my junior year at Kahuku, my dad transferred to BYU-Provo, so I graduated from Orem High. I had great friends at Orem, but I am a Kahuku Red Raider for life!

I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from BYU in Communications with an emphasis in advertising in 1983. During my entire four years at BYU, I worked in a four-year paid internship on The Daily Universe, BYU’s daily printed newspaper. The internship was more valuable than my classroom work.

MISSIONARY

(1978–1980)

My mission lasted two years and three weeks in the Japan Okayama Mission. I got a three-week extension to see Church President Spencer W. Kimball dedicate the Tokyo temple, my last day in Japan.

SEMINARY TEACHER

(1987–1989)

and (1993–1995)

I was an early-morning seminary teacher in Mission Viejo, California for 4.5 years. Teaching seminary was the hardest—and most rewarding—calling of my life. I taught five days a week and prepared 180 new lessons a year. But I got to teach all four Standard Works. Even though I had to get up at 4:00, I loved being with teenagers! I would love to teach early-morning seminary again. It changed my life.

CHURCH WRITER

(19981999)

I was part of the church-writing committee. Every Tuesday night a group of six of us worked on Church manuals including: The Activity Book; Duty to God; Teachings of Presidents of the Church—Heber J. Grant. I loved to see how General Authorities directed the Church Curriculum Department. And it was such nice to have a parking pass under the Church Office Building!

BISHOP

(20032008)

Lehi 19th Ward. I learned many important lessons: everyone has a problem, or everyone had a problem, or everyone will have a problem. It is best to “do justly, and to love mercy” (Micah 6:8). People are doing the best they can. Do not judge. Love thy neighbor.

HIGH COUNSELOR

(2011–2014)

For the newly-created Lehi YSA Stake.  I had the best assignment: activities and sports.

TEMPLE WORKER

(2011–Present)

Mount Timpanogos Temple. Saturday morning first shift. I cannot think of a better place to spend my Saturday mornings with the finest people in the world—both patrons and workers.

MISSION PREP

(2014–2019)

I was a Mission Preparation Instructor, Lehi Utah East Stake. I really caught the spirit of Elijah teaching high schoolers getting ready to embark on the adventure of a lifetime.

INSTITUTE INSTRUCTOR

(2016–2022)

If I could keep one calling for the rest of my life, it would be as an Institute teacher. YSAs are not afraid to share their testimony, participate and correct me.

ELDERS QUORUM INSTRUCTOR

(2022-2023)

There’s nothing better than teaching the words of the prophets, apostles and general authorities to the men in the Lehi 19th Ward.

ADULT RELIGION INSTRUCTOR

(2023-Present)

Teaching gospel topics to adults in the Lehi Utah East Stake every Thursday night is truly an honor and privilege!
